The Leader Of The Pack!

Who Goes First Oilfield PULSE Newsletter April 2015It seems to be in our DNA. The reluctance to take the first step, to be the one to jump before anyone else, in essence, to be the leader. We exalt leaders because they are different. They stand out because they are willing to break out of the mold of mediocrity and challenge their fear. As humans we are generally happy, almost relieved, to be part of the pack…to follow the leader as opposed to being one. It’s just how we roll. Always has been and probably always will be.

So what makes a leader? How are they wired to not let fear take control of their world? Is it environment, a reflection of their parent’s attitude, or just flat out better genetic makeup? Whatever it is the question comes down to…Who goes first?

Who’ll Be The First To Dance?

Oilfield PULSE Newsletter April 2015We see it all the time. You know, that dreaded awkward moment of waiting to see who will take the first step: like when we were kids and you have to pick your team for ball hockey, who picks first? Usually we decide by virtue of who is the dominant player or most popular or we throw our sticks in a pile and take turns picking them or we resort to the tried and true way of avoiding any kind of risk taking and flip a coin. We deflect responsibility by letting the coin make the decision for us.

Or, here is a classic. Harken back to your junior high school dances. Remember those? The girls and boys entering the gym with such uneasy trepidation and fear. Excited about the potential of having a good time but inevitably scared to make the first move in case the answer was no and you were exposed to the whole class. Completely embarrassed. A big capital L planted squarely on your forehead. It is safer to wait to let someone else die on that hill. Finally when the ice was broken everyone jumped on the easy train.

Building Up The Nerve!

As we age and theoretically mature, the same phenomenon occurs in our new game called “the business of making money”. Recently that phenomenon was illuminated for us by one of our VIP Oilfield HUB clients here at Leadstone Group. Our motto is “Connecting Buyers and Sellers in the Oil and Gas Industry”. The motto is solidified by a driving philosophy that there is Strength in Numbers. But what does that really mean? If as members of the human population our natural tendency is to be part of the pack and take solace in the idea of being stronger as a group, then whose shoulders Who Goes Firstshould bear the weight of leading the pack? In our discussion with this client the question was raised as it relates to the idea of connecting people. So, who goes first?

I’m That Guy!

Who Goes First Oilfield PULSE Newsletter April 2015Somebody has to go first!! As a sales and marketing company our success is predicated on taking the lead role, hence we are called Leadstone Group. We can get people “dancing” together by making the effort to find suitable synergistic partners with the potential of mutual benefit. We are walking across the floor and taking the risk out of the equation by leveraging relationships gained by trusting we can help. We are taking the time to understand the value proposition of our service companies so that we can match you up to an end user that is in need of your offering. Our strength in numbers benefit is illustrated by watching us work magic on both sides of the gym. We work with operators to be leaner, meaner, and more efficient from a cost management perspective, and we work with energy services companies to more effectively tell their story to those operators about how they can help to achieve that goal.

We are different. That is why you want to follow in our footsteps.

Want to find out how it can work for you? Let me break the ice. I will buy coffee.
