Men Just Don’t Communicate Well
Communication Breakdown, It’s Always The Same.
There it is. Have you heard this before? Of course you have. We hear it all the time, mostly from our spouse, when we just aren’t telling her how we feel about Bruce Jenner becoming a woman or how one of the Kardashians is rocking her new dress. I know this is life changing and serious information that we should form an opinion on. Yes, I’m sorry I am trivializing this age old pandemic that afflicts most men as they reach adulthood. But it is true I suppose. Men just are not that great at communicating.
Now, Don’t Have A Nervous Breakdown!
This point was brought up recently at a meeting with the President of an EPC when commenting about some of the issues plaguing the oil and gas industry. He is the one that said it…”We are men, we just don’t communicate that well”. The industry by and large is still an Old Boys Club, if you don’t believe me just ask any woman that works in downtown Calgary and you will quickly get a “Damn Right” show of support for that notion. So if that is the case, then how would we expect communication to not be a problem? It’s a natural. Men don’t communicate well and the industry is run by men. Kind of an ‘Aha’ moment right there hey?
So let’s say we are going to start a drilling project. What would normally happen is a call or email goes out to the vendors that have been selected. Details are explained. Sometimes the details are recorded on a scrap piece of paper nearby or on a napkin because you are just finishing up a breakfast meeting. Sound familiar guys? Not to mention this is happening on a couple of different fronts. The office procurement guys are getting their suppliers info and the field superintendent is working his list of local or time sensitive vendors as well. The field guy unfortunately can be even less descriptive because well, that’s just the way it has always been done. Old Boys Club remember.
And we wonder how a communication problem could occur?
Well there is help.
We Think That There Is Something That You Ought To Know!
At Leadstone Group we feel like we have the answer to solving some of the communication issues with a product we call Oilfield HUB. Oilfield HUB helps you identify your vendors, find out what vendors do well, organize them by service type, rate them, share information with all constituents throughout the company, and have options available at the ready for each category. Pretty simple stuff, but not really standard practice for most companies. This is what we do, and more, for operators in Oilfield HUB. Our service plugins allow companies the ability to have all the information centralized in one location according to the well or project. Identify who is going to be included in the work. We work closely with buyers to make sure they stay focused on what they need to do and not waste time looking for options. We can help them share information on vendors other operators know and trust and who may be in the same area working, so it’s easier to work with them. So you could say I am the authority on what operators are doing in Oilfield HUB. It works, and we want to help you.
Staying organized is part of the magic for guys to combat the evil forces of poor communication skills. Don’t leave it to chance. Let us help you.
