I was asked recently what advantage a service company had in participating in Oilfield HUB. The prospective client was trying to downsize their marketing budget and needed to chop their budget in half. A daunting task in these tough economic times.
I was somewhat surprised by this question as I know we have a directory and marketing component to our Oilfield HUB product. Having said that I really think of Oilfield HUB as a sales tool first, marketing device second.

Not so many years ago all a business needed to do in the industry was place an ad in the local phone book and your phone would ring. Boy did that change fast.
The digital world, smart phones and apps have changed the way services are found both in and out of the oil industry.
Business owners are inundated with company’s all promising to fix their websites, create content and place them on the first page of Google. All great services if done properly.
I wanted to address this question in a blog as I really believe it is a valid question that is on the minds of almost all service companies in the oil industry.
To understand my surprise to the question, I want to help service companies to understand Oilfield HUB. To Producers the HUB is a tool they use to better manger their vendors. Simply put, producers need help sourcing your service, requesting your prices and ordering your products from you.

Understanding this, I think of the Oilfield HUB as an extension of your sales force. Service companies do use our marketing component….but they join the Oilfield HUB community to receive orders.
In fact our HUB Advocate Program allows your service company to be featured in a demo where your products and services are featured to prospective Producers. This feature I feel really sets us apart. This is a powerful tool to be placed right in front of Producers that need to buy your services.
I guess I have always believed marketing is something you can scale back, but things that help you make sales should never be cut.
